What Is Swindon Animation?

Hey! 👋I’m Leah Panigada-Carey

I’ve been a 2D animator for over 10 years now and have worked professionally on many animated TV shows and games.When I moved to Swindon a few years ago, I realised that there were no dedicated spaces, groups or studios for animation.That is why I’ve created Swindon Animation!

Through Artsite, I now have a studio space that I would like to open up to animation-curious locals who would like to try their hand at making some animation.There will eventually be options for Stopmotion, 2D digital, Multi-Media and paper cut-out animation.It is important that people get the chance to experiment with animation and bring their creations to life.Animation should be accessible for everyone to try out!

Things are changing this September!

I'm shaking things up a bit!
After a few months of getting a better idea of how to run these animation workshops, I've decided to make a few changes.

From the start of September, I'll be running two new workshop classes: 'Animation Principles' and 'Experimental Animation'.

Animation Principles

In this class-like workshop, we'll be referencing some of the most influential books in animation history to brush up on the fundamental principles of animation. Together we'll dedicate an hour and a half to study, practice and skill build principles such as exaggeration, secondary action and squash and stretch that apply to all mediums that require animation.This is generally be a traditionally drawn class but there is scope for stop-motion practice too!This workshop is ideal for animation graduates, beginners and professionals.£10 per session,
Wednesdays and Fridays at 2:30pm

Experimental Animation

If you would like to make a short film or an animated gif, this is the class for you. The style and subject are completely up to you, but I'll be here to provide guidance and resources along the way to help your idea come to life!This is a 2 hour session, where we can discuss, plan and record your animation in the studio.This course is perfect for anyone who would like to tell a story, is already an established artist or wants to explore their style in a playful and experimental new way!

I had the pleasure of being a part of the Signal Festival and speaking to the young creatives of Swindon who want to get into creative industries!

Swindon Open Studios will be happening this September! If you'd like to come have a chat and nosy around the studio, come visit me as a part of the Artsite Studios at 10 Theatre square on the 20th/21st of September 2025.
